3.30 At the ratings , looks very much a 3 horse war between Bastogne , a massive class dropper , but comes here on the back of two very poor runs, Letter Of The Law, still a maiden but has run some fair races in better grade of late , and the hat-trick seeking Say Grace , who after landing a seller at Wolver was a very easy winner in this grade at Lingfield and taken to get the better of higher rated but unconvincing rivals .

4.00 It’s very hard to knock the enthusiastic and very willing Golden Spice and last time showed that turf is no issue with an all the way win at Newmarket , but there are other front runners in contention and the 6 pound hit looks very severe . Quick Change is rarely far away and last time out this late player was a close 3rd in a competitive Wolver handicap and was 2nd in her only turf run .

Selected Brighton – good to firm on this undulating , sharp and tricky track
2.20 This looks there for the taking and nothing at all wrong with the chance of the back to form veteran Shamshon , who was only beaten 2 heads at Newmarket off this much reduced mark , under a 7 pound apprentice who keeps the ride . He was given a prominent ride , and never stopped trying and this dual course winner has a great chance of a return to the Winners’ Circle which came here , last Summer , off a 13 pound higher mark.

2.50 In a weak contest the clear form horse is recent Bath 3rd Bear To dream , but the drop in trip around this much sharper track , far from ideal and I’m with the prolific all weather horse Storm Asset . After notching 3 good wins , at different venues , he’s held his form well off his new mark and excuses can be made for what looked at first glance a tame effort over C&D last time , but this usually prominent racer was held up and did some pleasing work late on . Also the first time blinkers employed last time have been binned , the usual cheekpieces back on and Pat Cosgrave a positive jockey booking .

4.20 Understandably there was money for Course specialist De Vegas Kid last time out here , but again couldn’t capitalise on a declining mark , and we have to go back almost 3 years since his last turf win , which came here , and off a 17 pound higher mark . He’s up 2 pounds but the longer trip will help, but so hard to be with given his rotten win record of late . Dawn View took advantage of both a good mark and a soft race when winning for the 3rd time here just a few races ago but a 5 pound hit puts her on a very tough mark now but today this prominent racer is partnered by an able 5 pound claimer , so all is not lost . Sly Madam was a shock 25/1 winner over C&D last time , but won like an odds on shot . Previously she was way behind Bbob alula over C&D , so hard to know how that victory came about , but she hasn’t had a great deal of racing so may just be coming to herself . In a tricky contest , I’m with Bbob Alula , despite being 4 pounds higher than his win , because he’s a late player in a race likely to be strongly run .

6.22 Despite the big field , just two front runners and Maningoro and Runninwild are drawn close by in 7 and 9 . but of the pair , the tip makes far more appeal of being at least front rank and notching an overdue win .Manigordo is not the prolific type , just 2 win in 27 tries, but is rarely far away and significantly has only his 2nd race ever in Class 5 , and he won the other one while Runninwild has a bit to prove on this season’s runs. There are plenty of in form types in this on workable marks and suited to the C&d and ground , but the class dropper could be going half a stride too quick for these .

6.52 Despite plenty of help from the handicapper , Charlie Arthur is 0 places from 5 runs on turf . this is very weak and looks a golden opportunity for the reliable Whitwell, who runs this C&D well and can exploit the stamina limitations of Cusack . Ooh La Lais down to a good mark and more of a danger but often finds it hard to get into a challenging position .

7.22 Variety Island ran well in his first two races this season , just beaten 2 lengths in big fields in both but found it tough going in a better race at Haydock last time but has been dropped a very helpful 4 pounds and is back in Class 6 grade , at which he is 1 from1 .

5.29 After a good effort at Ascot when 5th if 19, there was money for G’daay , back up to his best trip , but found the Wolver bends very tight and despite finishing well , was only a decent 3rd . He runs this track well and fine chance in a winnable heat .

7.29 The late playing Lil Guff gave a big field a head start and a beating at Haydock and off just a 6 pound higher mark , has to be respected , as she won so well , but previously was behind Foxy Rascal over C&D , having held every chance , and that one ran OK next time in a big Ascot field , despite not being out into the race . The lightly raced Twelfth Night looks to be on a most workable mark and is another with strong claims , but a prominent ride for the tip could see her home.
