” Ai” looks good in the 2.28

Today’s multi

3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble

Rainbow Mirage 4.55 @ 15/2

Rose Fandango 4.48 @ 11/4

Kitai 2.28 @ 2/1

Selected Newcastle – all weather , tapeta . The track is stiff and galloping

1.40 Not a deep looking maiden and despite both carrying dreaded penalties, this looks likely to be fought out by the odds on fav Batal Dubai and Tribal Hunter , and as the latter’s first run was a good 2nd over C&d, nothing to prove , while the fav , despite bringing stronger form to the table , is not obviously bred for this surface.

1/4pt win Tribal Hunter @ 7/2

2.15 Sound Pleasure comes here on a hat-trick and really impressed when stepped up to just short of this trip at Beverley , so this stiff track should hold no fears . On a lofty but fair mark and a sibling was a multiple winner on dirt , so encouraging signs for the surface. Both Ramz and Swift Lioness will ensure that the tip needs to be at his best to prevail .

1/2pt  win Sound Pleasure @ 3/1

3.25 This is very weak and IF old News can reproduce his recent 2nd over C&D, it coming off a much reduced mark , it’s game over , but can disappoint at times .

1/4pt  win Old News @ 9/4

4.01 Hats off to Rocket Rod , who comes here on a course 4 timer , and the drop in trip and penalty made no difference as he again sluiced in . He’s up a mighty 8 pounds and preference is for recent C&D winner Desert Land , who backed that up with a close 2nd at Carlisle off this mark . This is just his 3rd run for Keith Dalglish and has obviously benefitted from the stable switch , and is just preferred .

1/4pt win Desert Land @ 5/2

Selected Haydock – good to firm on this flat and galloping track

1.53 As she was running just Ok off her mark , the 6 pound penalty could be hard to shrug off for recent Kempton winner Qoya, who is proven on fast turf . Preference is for the lightly raced filly Primi Ordinis , two good runs of late , and last time stayed on well to be a good 3rd in a deep Windsor maiden , putting her on a good mark in her first handicap and the longer trip likely to be in her benefit .

1/2pt win Primi Ordinis @ 2/1

2.28 Plenty was expected of Centrefold on debut , but this £240,000 filly was quite easy in the market, and in the end ran just a fair race .  on that form she has chunks to find with another expensive filly in Kitai , and this £150,000 purchase ran a belter over c&D , and the narrow winner has gone on to run a big race since . She’s well drawn to take a handy sit under the favoured stands rails and could take some catching .

3/4pt  win Kitai @ 2/1

3.38 There is a stack of early pace in this . most of them drawn favourably high , and it could finally be the luckless So Smart’s big day . He’s been 2nd 5 times from 6 runs on turf this season, his only unplaced effort when badly drawn at Chester . He’s a prominent racer , but does keep going and the able 7 pound claimer aboard has ridden him well before . The short priced fav is the back to form soul Seeker , but how will he cope back on a speed track after good runs on stiff tracks.

1/4pt  ew So Smart @ 7/1

4.48 Very hard being with the fav , Trois Vallees , a weak finisher , who goes up in trip and switches to fast turf. The lightly raced Spear Fir comes into this on the back of two good seconds off  around this mark , but stamina not assured . Preference is for the reliable Rose Fandango, who is usually kept to the all weather , but ran a cracker here when a close 2nd in a competitive handicap , over a trip further than ideal , and now back to her best distance .

1/2pt win Rose Fandango @ 11/4

Selected Ascot – good to firm on this stiff and galloping track

2,00 Hello Deira has run to a similar level in both runs , both times at Salisbury , so this stiff C&D should hold no fears , but there are quite a few well bred and expensive newcomers in the field , so not necessarily a good thing at around evens .

No Bet

2,35 City of Kings was well backed on debut in a race for newcomers , which could have been quite a hot race , as the horse finishing 8th ran a good 2nd yesterday . He’s odds on and again there’s a few likely newcomers , none more so than Aidan O’Brien’s £450,000 purchase Paddington .

3.45 Not a deep race and a clear opportunity for the clear form horse in Al Marmar, but another odds on fav .

4.20 Despite being 5 pounds higher for his latest win, Dubai Mirage could well have the run of the race from the front and hold them at bay , in a winnable heat .

1/4pt win Dubai Mirage @ 9/2

4.55 The fav is the admirably consistent Sound Of iona , who my Members were with last night at Windsor , and failed narrowly by a head coming 2nd. Another big run likely , but does have a rare run on a stiff track . I prefer the chance of the prolific mare Rainbow Mirage , who has switched from the small stable of Mark Rimell to a much stronger outfit if Richard Hughes , who has a very healthy 26% success rate with new inmates first time out. Likely to improve for the switch , so the 3 pound hit could be manageable and also has form on fast ground and stiff , straight tracks .

1/2pt win Rainbow Mirage @ 15/2

Selected Kempton- all weather – polytrack

7.20 The two clear form horses are Spanish and Sweet Fantasy , rated a very decent 80 and 77 respectively , and despite the wide draw , I’m with the higher rated . Both are in  good form and both have their first try on the all weather. To add to the interest , Godolphin run a newcomer in Feel The Moment .

1/4pt win Spanish @ 7/2
