Been through the Chepstow card , with my usual care , but all the races are full of ifs , buts and maybes and with mostly small fields, scant reward for getting it right, so I’ve decided to give the meeting a miss , back with the two cracking cards of Newmarket and York soon
3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble
Gliding Bay 5.45 @ 7/2
Rage Of Bamby 2.25 @ 7/2
Sister Lola 6.00 @ 4/1
Selected Newmarket – good ground on this undulating , stiff and galloping track
1,50 Prince Of Pello is 3 from 4 , his only reversal due to the York mud , but still ran a decent race . He is clearly the one to beat , but is priced accordingly and his habit of missing a beat at the start could be costly in this Group 3 . Squealer has improved since switching to front running and ran to a good level at Beverley last time , so this stiff C&D should hold no terrors . Unlikely to be on his own up front but does see it out well and a lively longshot .
1/4pt ew Squealer @ 16/1
2.25 Crystallum is 2 from 2 and was a comfortable winner of a Newbury Class 2 last time , while Believing also brings good form to the table with a good 2nd in an Ayr Group 3, but both have a bit to prove tackling this stiff C&D . Rage Of Bamby brings the best form to the table , coming here on the back of a brave 3rd over C&D In a Group 2 . She tried to make all last time , doing well holding on for so long with competition for the lead . Not a great deal of early pace in this and she had plenty of useful juveniles behind last time.
1/2pt win Rage Of Bamby @ 7/2
3.00 Sacred showed us last time what exactly she’s capable of , annihilating the field in a Listed Race at Newbury , but back in Group company , prefer the chance of C&D distance specialist Pogo, a most determined sort in the finish .
1/2pt win Pogo @ 7/4
4.10 PREMIUM RACE
4.45 The clear form horse is recent C&d 2nd Mubhijah , and taken to put her experience to good use .
1/4pt win Mubhijah @ 5/2
5.50 A wide open finale but considering that Achelois was only narrowly beaten by the much improved and now classy Anmaat in The John Smith Cup , when 2nd of 22 at York , and Anmaat is now rated a very lofty 123. She went on to land a Class 1 over the same C&D before struggling in Group 3 at Windsor . Nice longshot considering she arguably brings the strongest form at this trip to the table .
1/4pt ew Achelois @ 16/1
Selected York – good ground on this flat and galloping track
2.05 Betweenthesticks was losing the faithful in their droves , but he’s now back in favour , having been revived good style by the switch back to 5 furlongs , coming here on the back of 2 wins and a close 2nd . He’s a hefty 6 pounds higher but his recent win at Wolver can be seriously upgraded as it came from the worst of the draw , and this isn’t a deep nursery .
1/2pt win Betweenthesticks @ 13/2
2.40 PREMIUM RACE
3.15 Considering that Streets Of Gold is bred for middle distances , he is a very exciting prospect for next season as he is 3 from 3 at 6 furlongs and this extra furlong , makes him a solid short priced fav to extend his sequence .
3/4p win Streets Of Gold @ 6/5
3.50 PREMIUM RACE
4.25 A stack of early pace which leads me to trying the find the strong staying late players . Kimngrace is rarely far away and will be staying on when the rest have waved the white flag .
1/4pt ew Kimngrace @ 12/1
5.35 It’s understandable to a degree that the clear form horse in Yanifer is such a warm order . Doesn’t appeal as a value play at the odds , so just a dabble .
1/4pt win Yanifer @ 3/1
Selected Dundalk – all weather – polytrack
6.00 This is certainly more about quantity than quality and the clear form horse is recent close 2nd Sister Lola , who has backed that up with 2 big runs on turf , off this mark . Well drawn and Shane Foley rides .
1/2pt win Sister Lola @ 4/1
6.30 A very competitive and good quality handicap and I like the look of the nicely drawn dual C&d winner Ampeson , who has run some good races since being raised in the ratings .
1/4pt ew Ampeson @ 12/1
7.30 Another race where quantity seriously outweighs quality . Dr Patrick did very well to be 2nd over C&D last time , behind one who has won since under a penalty , as he was badly drawn . He’s suffered the same fate again , but has proved that a wide draw is no issue .
1/2pt win Dr Patrick @ 11/4
Selected Newcastle – all weather – tapeta . The track is stiff and galloping
5.10 Veteran Athollblair Boy comes here in pretty good form and has 6 track wins on his CV . There’s plenty of early pace for this late player to sit off and in this race for apprentices , will be well handled by Alex Jary .
1/4pt win Athollblair Boy @ 9/2
5.45 Not a deep race and this looks to concern the two young horses from Southern stables in Gliding Bay and Citizen General , but clear preference for the tip , who beat his main rival at this trip at Lingfield , quite comfortably , and just a pound worse off , but a smart 3 pound claimer rides and this demanding C&D will suit this strong stayer .
1/2pt win Gliding Bay @ 7/2
6.45 PREMIUM RACE
7.15 Rose’s girl deservedly got off the mark over C&D last time , at her 14th try , when gifted the race from the front, and could get another soft lead tonight , but could well paddle with the stiff 6 pound hit . After a facile win here over 7 furlongs in his first run for David O’Meara , Canagat was 2/5 to follow up, over this extra furlong , but ran only moderately , in a weak heat . There was little between We Still Believe , Silver Dust and Top Attraction over C&D recently and as the tip has run well over this C&D a few times of late , looks the ew play .
1/4pt ew Top Attraction @ 10/1
8.15 Similar to many late players , Joshua R doesn’t win many but was successful over C&D back In March off just a pound lower , this being a deserved win after 3 close seconds previously . He’s recently resumed duties and was noted running on well over C&D last time . He’s building up fitness and with so much early pace , quite an exciting longshot in The Lucky Last .
1/2pt ew Joshua R @ 16/1
