Selected Newton Abbot – good ground on this flat and sharp track
1.50 The classy chaser Rouge Vif hasn’t really had a chance to impress since joining Paul Nicholls as he’s been taking on some very hot company in Grade 1s and 2. He’s on a good mark dropping into a handicap and as his opponents come into this under clouds , chance to exploit that. He hasn’t been pulling up any trees himself but has more obvious excuses than his rivals .
½ pt win Rouge Vif @ 9/4
3.30 The clear form horse is the strong staying The Macon Lugnatic and the only concern is this sharp track, but opposition look well beatable .
½ pt win The Macon Lunatic @ 2/1
4.30 The headstrong Karanelle should have more than just the 1 win on his CV as he tends to bomb out , willingly , but frustratingly has been 2nd times , including last time out , when for once was given a slightly more patient ride , and was closing all the way . The 3 pound hit is harsh , but has hit the frame in both runs here and this isn’t a deep contest .
¼ pt win Karanelle @ 3/1
5.05 After a fine win on heavy ground , Camembert electric last time showed that quicker ground is no impediment with a good 3rd at Chepstow. The 2nd has won since and the return to this longer trip in his favour in a modest contest .

Selected Chester – good to soft on this flat and galloping track where runners with a low draw and race prominently have an edge.
1.30 Understandable that the bookies make Star of Lady M the short priced fav to land the hat-trick as she is well drawn to get a handy pitch , doesn’t have to lead to win and this mud lover should have an advantage with the ground too.
½ pt win Star Of Lady M @ 5/4
2.05 The short priced fav is recent Sandown winner , who sluiced in making all, but the 8 pound hit will take a stack of overcoming , as he was only competitive off that winning mark last season , and he could have done without the ground changing . The admirably prolific Shamlaan , 5 wins in 11 starts and comes here on the back of a smart win on fast turf at Goodwood , when racing prominently and just doing enough . He’s 6 pounds higher , which has to test but given his profile , could still be ahead of the game . I’m trying the handicap newcomer in Nymphadora , who runs for a top stable and raced often in Group company last year , and sometimes was quite prominent in the market . She has the best of the draw, the mark looks fine and is preferred .
¼ pt win Nymphadora @ 11/2
2.40 Most of these fillies are lightly raced and practically certain to improve on their OK ratings presently as they go up in trip and also gather more experience . Moon De Vega came good on her 4th start when making all on easy ground at Donny , showing terrific determination for the win . She has the best of the draw and no reason why she wont try another all the way win as she is bred to stay this longer trip in this Cheshire Oaks . She has an entry in the Epsom Oaks and is trained by Ralph Beckett , no stranger to nurturing fillies to Classic success . All of the field are entitled to improve and understandable that the fav is Joseph O’Brien’s impressive Leopardstown winner Above The Curve, which is the best form on show , but longer trip, tricky draw and softer ground all issues . The stable does well here in 3yo maidens and looks a lovely ew play .
½ pt ew Moon De Vega @ 8/1
3.10 This looks very much a match on form but as the bookies make New London a 1/3 shot , easy to have a play on Aiden O’Brien’s recent facile winner Changingoftheguard , likely to try and make all.
1/2pt win Changingoftheguard @ 9/2
3.40 Ever Given hardly pout a hoof wrong last season and goes handicapping again on a very fair mark and was a most willing and progressive young sprinter last season . I was very much with the useful Tolstoy on his comeback spin but found the quick ground against him . Nicely drawn , very fairly handicapped and with the ground in his favour , looks a lovely ew play .
½ pt ew Tolstoy @ 11/1

Selected Kelso – good ground on this undulating and sharp track with a long galloping straight
1.40 The hat-trick seeking Hidden Commander was all out to prevail last time out and with a 9 pound hit and facing a much longer trip , looks an odds on shot to take on . Both rivals come here in decent form and worth a rev fc
¼ pt rev fc Deluxe Range- Castletown

3.50 The prolific Douglas Talking could have his work cut out with another penalty , racing on ground quick enough and with Tonto Spirit an unwelcome presence up front . I was with Sao last time in a far better race and did disappoint , but holds good claims on the general balance of his form .
¼ pt win Sao @ 5/1

Selected Fontwell – good ground on this sharp track
5.00 As Coal Stock has a very hefty penalty and his victory came out of the blue , in a race where many come into this in poor form , a good chance for the consistent Paslovsky having a rare pop in Class 4 and previous runs in this grade , 2 wins and a place from 3 tries !
½ pt win Paslovsky @ 7/2
6.10 PREMIUM RACE
6.40 It’s not a deep race and as recent track winner Rubys reward is up a sharp 8 pounds and drops 6 furlongs in trip, worth trying the lightly raced The Height Of Fame , a running on 4th in his first handicap here last time , and not beaten far and both the ease in the ratings and longer trip will help, but not proven on quick ground .
¼ pt win The Height Of Fame @ 11/2
7.10 After a clear win stepped up to 3 miles for the first time and over fences , juniper was a facile winner but next time out was withdrawn at the start as she refused to line up ! She’s 8 pounds higher for that win , but is unexposed as a good ground stayer and the switch back to hurdles is probably a wise move .
1/4pt win Juniper @ 11/2

Selected Kempton – all weather – polytrack
6.30 The short priced fav is the hat-trick seeking The Mad Monk and despite the 6 pound penalty is still looking ahead of the game , but to make sure , have booked this year’s 7 pound claiming sensation Harry Davies , so will take some beating , but looking at the odds , can’t resist a dabble on The Prince , who was a close 5th over C&D a few starts back and anything like that again sees him bang there . disappointed last time , but an off day is always forgivable
¼ pt ew The Prince @ 66/1
7.00 Plenty in with a chance but the bookies make the lightly raced maiden Substantial a short priced fav , returning to action after a 5 months absence , and only on a fair mark, so easy to look elsewhere , , with plenty of alternatives. A decent pace should be on with Helluvaboy , returning to action after 6 months off , likely to try to replicate his last run when making all over C&D , but he did have the run of the race , and with a 4 pound hit and a rise in grade , not hard seeing him waving the white flag in the straight . The consistent Helm Rock likes to race prominently and down in trip he’ll be certainly pushing the pace along . There is very little between the admirably consistent pair of Got No Dollars and Thapa Vc and Follow Your Heart on recent form over C&D when they finished close up behind the prolific Sayifyouwill , but on today’s terms, the late playing tip comes out just the best .
½ pt ew Thapa Vc @ 15/2

8.30 Hiconic is certainly worth a dabble in The lucky Last as she returned from a very lengthy absence with a close 6th at Lingfield at this trip when trying to make all , and made a right fist of it. She’s quite fascinating as she went hurdling with little to recommend her on paper as she was a modestly rated 55 but took to hurdles like a duck to water , winning her first 4 races and then running well in defeat a few times , and her peak rating was 117 , which is 82 on the flat , so no wonder she was a warm order switching to the flat a few times off her mark of just 57 , but just ran OK to be not far off the winner , so she’s just plainly a far better hurdler , but makes appeal at the odds in a winnable finale . It’s always a worry when a long time absentee has their 2nd race back quite soon afterwards, worth the risk .
