3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble
Aconcagua Mountain 2.40 @ 7/2
Wild Side 4.40 @ 4/1
Dark Side Prince 6.22 @ 6/1
Selected Catterick – good to firm on this undulating and sharp track
2.40 Both Astapor and Golden Gal have good recent form over C&D, which counts for plenty , but preference is for the much improved Aconcagua Mountain . two wins at Wolver last year and reappeared with a very sound close 5th at Hamilton recently , and every chance this track will suit .
1/2pt win Aconcagua Mountain @ 7/2
3.40 One of a number of races today where the whole field are new to fast turf . May as well chuck a dart if you’re desperate for a bet .
4.10 Wade’s Magic has a good record here and responded to the drop in the ratings and a return to this C&D and better ground with a good close 3rd last time . Not that well drawn but will appreciate the ground more than most .
1/4pt win Wade’s Magic @ 5/1
4.40 A quintet of powerful Southern stables have runners in this , most wearing famous colours . The fav is the consistent Godolphin filly Star Guest , but does drop in trip and could be found out around this sharp circuit . Preference is for the prominent racing Wild Side , a good winner at Yarmouth last time , a win that puts her on a good mark on her handicap debut . Nicely drawn but she is one of three pacesetters , but does see the trip out well .
1/2pt win Wild Side @ 4/1
5.12 PREMIUM RACE
No Catterick placepot
Selected Wolver – all weather – tapeta
2.20 An uncompetitive low grade sprint and the well drawn American Rose has looked a bit of a handful in recent races and the nod goes to the consistent Mucky Mulroney , proven at the track and mark and drop in trip could be a smart move .
1/4pt win Mucky Mulroney @ 4/1
3.20 The revitalised Another Angel. 2 wins and 3 seconds in his last 5 , has been bunged up another 3 pounds and this longer trip not his best, also the jockey is struggling for winners . Coast is a dual C&D winner , but is hard to predict . Nicely drawn and was a close 2nd over C&D recently off a higher mark . Could well land this , if on a going day . The in form pair of Araifjan and Catesby both have unfavourable wide draws to overcome .
1/4pt ew Coast @ 12/1
4.20 Fighting Poet is still a maiden but is rarely far away. Mark fine as is trip and surface . Nice ew play in a tricky heat .
1/4pt ew Fighting Poet @ 8/1
4.50 The admirable Odd Socks Havana , a win and 3 seconds in his last 4 races , is now on a stiff enough mark , but is well drawn and the crack apprentice Billy Loughnane takes off a valuable 3 pounds . Pop Favourite is rarely far away but wins hard to come by . Could be his day from a good draw and remaining on a good mark .
1/4pt ew Pop Favourite @ 10/1
5.25 PREMIUM RACE
No Wolver placepot
Selected Haydock – good to firm on this flat and galloping track
2.30 Divine Comedy comes here on the back of a right demolition job at Donny , winning with ease by 11 lengths ! It was a poor race and was the clear form horse , but the 5 pound hit demands more as he looked just OK handicapped prior to that race . The consistent Ghadbaan is on a workable mark and no issues with trip or ground . He is preferred to the in form front running all weather horse Tio Mio , who has stamina doubts but both Glen Again and Brasca have both dropped to good marks and wouldn’t be surprised if both outran their long odds .
1/4pt win Ghadbaan @ 5/1
3.00 A much watch race with all of Bjorn Ironside , Daring Legend Only In Jakarta, Thunder Blue and Twilight Romance all costing wedges , racing for good stables and in famous colours .
3.30 Another race where quick ground is a novelty for the vast majority of the field .
4.00 Ditto !
4.30 & 5.05 Both these maidens are worth watching with a stack of unexposed and promising types and some likely newcomers gracing the track.
5.40 The only one with decent form at the trip , mark and ground is the unexposed Sunfyre , worth a dabble .
1/4pt ew Sunfyre @ 11/1
No Haydock placepot
Selected Chelmsford City – all weather – polytrack
5.20 In this apprentices handicap, recent Wolver winner Glory And Honour is partnered by a jockey having his first ever ride and as Spit Spot was poor on his recent comeback race , well worth a try with the reliable Lunar Shadow , still on a fair mark, surface no issue and ridden by an experienced jockey .
1/4pt win Lunar Shadow @ 6/1
6.22 The reliable Sir Ridneyredblood will give his usual all but not well drawn , now high in the ratings and better over an extra furlong . The hard to win with Blue Flame would do well getting involved returning from a 7 months break and dropping in trip . The reliable Dark Side Prince has just a 2 pound penalty for his win at Southwell. That was 3 months ago , but goes well fresh, nicely drawn and is a dual C&D winner .
1/2pt win Dark Side Prince @ 6/1
7.22 Fly Zone , who runs in the Frankel colours , did well last time finishing 2nd at Newbury and has plenty of all weather winners in the pedigree . Well drawn.
1/2pt win Fly Zone @ 10/11
7.52 Hard seeing either of the infrequent winners in Cappananty Con or Martineo following up with penalties . The admirably consistent Monaadhil , 2 wins and 3 places in his last 5 races, is a triple C&D winner and is the one to beat off a workable looking mark for this grade. Viewfromthestars is rarely far away , including over C&D , but remains a maiden after 18 tries .
1/2pt win Monaadhil @ 7/2
8.22 The drop in grade will certainly help the cause of the well handicapped C&D winner Jungle Run , taking on mostly unconvincing rivals.
1/2pt win Jungle Run @ 3/1
8.52 Chances can be given to many in this open finale but the well handicapped C&D winner Star Of St Louis ran well on his first start for his new stable , beaten just 2 lengths by Alice Kitty , and enjoys a 3 pound pull .
1/4pt ew Star Of St Louis @ 7/1
Chelmsford City placepot
Selected Sandown – good ground on this stiff and galloping track
6.12 Yet another race where the vast majority of the field will be experiencing quick ground for the first time . Easy to swerve , Don’t like wild guessing .
6.42 An absolute crackerjack of a juvenile Class 1 as 8 of the field won at the first time of asking while the other two won on their second try . With so many of these winning cosily , impossible to know which one has the edge but all of the field won their races on soft ground , except for the good ground impressive Ponty winner World of Darcy . Well drawn and Ryan Moore rides , looks a nice play at the odds .
1/2pt win World Of Darcy @ 9/1
7.42 The Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes named after the terrific racehorse of the early 70’s who only tasted defeat once in a long career . The odds on fav is the 3 from 3 and last year’s Epsom Derby winner Desert Crown , who despite taking on some talented rivals , it would be a shock if this potentially great horse didn’t maintain his winning run .
8.12 The short priced fav is the lightly raced Assessment , but only 4 runs in 3 years is very worrying , especially switching from synthetics to quick turf . Yaamas did little wrong last time at Ascot after two good wins on the all weather but Helm Rock was just behind him in that race and is much longer odds . Quantico lost little when giving Yaanaas weight and is another to consider despite having his first ever run on turf .
1/4pt ew Helm Rock @ 7/1
8.42 Yet another race where the vast majority have been either running on the all weather or on soft ground , so the quick ground could find many out . Umberto has run very well in all 3 starts, , running a good race at Yarmouth on good ground last time , putting him on a workable mark .
1/4pt win Umberto @ 9/2
